Another thing I'd mention is don't use all nighters for studying. Try to get all the studying in as early as possible and then use the night for tedious work. Otherwise you'll find yourself reading the same sentence in a book from 2:30 to 3:00.

Also don't be afraid to admit that you've failed when it's around 1:00 and you're just too plain tired. Sometimes you have to cut your losses. Which leads to my next point, try to avoid depending on a successful all-nighter.

I really don't think all-nighters are good. I'd rather use my time management skills and let nature take its course. At night is when your body heals itself after walking around, running, jumping, or whatever all day. It just goes to prove how insane our society has become that people can't even sleep anymore. That is out of control.

Blasting music is useful if you live alone. I don't, so I need to watch my audio output during all-nighters.

However, I have noticed another energy-conserving tip: proper lighting. My office features the deadening hum of fluorescent lighting directly above my (ergonomically horrendous) desk. I've noticed that switching to halogen lamps creates a much more inviting atmosphere, which DOESN'T sap my energy nearly as fast.

Also: don't eat big meals, but do snack at intervals. The act of getting up to nibble on something might be just the change of atmosphere you need to recharge for a moment.
