How to Choose the Right Time for Change

You’ve got a new goal. (Or maybe 101 new goals!) This time, you’re really going to do it, too … only you’re going to start tomorrow.

Or the next day.

Or the day after that.

The simple answer to this dilemma is to simply start now, as in right this minute.

However, I strongly believe in getting off on the right foot, and sometimes starting on a “special” day can be the difference between actually getting going and waiting for yet another tomorrow that never comes.

Great Dates for change include:

  • Sundays
  • The first day of the month
  • The first day of a new season
  • Holidays
  • New Year’s Eve

Of course, personal milestones – birthdays, anniversaries, marriages, deaths, births, moves – are also excellent times for positive personal change.

The one day that I think is a bad day to start a change is the 1st January. I think people put too much pressure on themselves with new year resolutions. They wait and wait for the day knowing they are going to start and then their expectations are so high they can’t live up to them.

However I agree starting sooner rather than later is important, but sometimes you do need that Great Day to Start!! When I decided to take more action on my weight I started on the 1st of the month.

I started yesterday (1.21.08) The reason I picked that date was because the end date would be my birthday. I thought that might be fun. It took me a week to come up with my list, but I feel like it isn’t daring enough. However, it is my list and I want to do everything on that list…so I guess that is the best thing for right now.

I think this is where I first heard of the 101 Things to Do in 1001 Days, so I’d like to Thank You so much for talking about it.
